The Mighty Mo

This year I have been lucky enough to spend a good amount of days in Montana. Luckily for me most have been fishing the Missouri river. I grew up fishing around in Utah and fishing a lot up on the South Fork of the Snake so I kinda assumed all rivers were like these. Little did I know that huge, slow moving rivers with college educated fishing were not that far away.

Spending my first day on the mo was amazing, one of the best days I have had fishing. It was late march and cold. It rained on and off all day but never have I caught so many fish so quickly. These were not the fish I was used to either. We caught hog after hog after hog. I probably doubled up over 20 times with my dad, it was great.
I then went back in late may and caught not as many, but I did snag a few really good ones out of there.   Still I had no real idea how to fish the river.

What made me truly love the river was a trip we took in August known as the Can Am. We would spend 3 days fishing the Missouri river and a 2 days fishing the Bow river in Calgary.  We spent from 6 am until 4 pm on the river those days only rushing back to eat dinner then go out and wade hoping for the evening risers. After we got back from the Bow river we snuck in another 2 days of fishing the river before we had to go home. It was the trip of a lifetime, but also about the best education on fishing the mo as one could get. I finally feel like I could at least stand a chance on my own and I hope to go back time and time again. And honestly the whole trip was worth it to learn the word rainbro.

Something I listened to

I think Yvonn Chouinard is an interesting person. I just read his book, Let my people go surfing. It was good. Real good. I however a few days ago stumbled upon this little gem, a story of being taught be Fred Becky himself. http://patagoniamusic.s3.amazonaws.com/Podcasts/PatagoniaPodcasts/Patagonia_podcast_masters_apprentice.mp3
I cant imagine how cool it would be. He is 80 years old almost and still is a dirtbag. He still doesnt have a wife, or house, or well anything besides good stories and amazing first ascents.

Tough Times

Recently I came to the sad realization that I am not as cool as I once thought I was. The other day while creeping around in my basement, I found an old photo album with pictures of my dad in it. It was tough to realize he is really that much cooler than I am, but he is. Tanner suggested I can win this battle if I climb Crack of Doom, I know he got shut down on that.
The beer at the belay station is still questionable..... Clear answers have still not been provided.....

Random Intertwined Learning.

Is it funny ever to realize that one is studying different things, that in the end, all end up being the same thing. Recently I found myself doing this.
With an interest in different economic ideas lately, I recently finished reading the book the Communist Manifesto. I really enjoyed it. While the views are not what one would call "traditional American" ideas, I thought that Marx and Engels presented their thoughts in a clear and convincing manner.  I would recommend to anyone that they read this work.
Also, probably because a hippie roomate told me it was worth my time, I was reading The Motorcycle Diaries lately. The book is the story of Ernesto "Che" Guevara and essentially what led him to become what he did. Due to injustice and other factors, he adopted many Marxist  theories and  lead a revolution leading to socialism, and then ultimately communism.

I just thought the whole thing was interesting. What started out as just reading 2 different books led me to think alot about what I think is right and what can be done. I may or may not have ordered the book Che in spanish on amazon about 5 minutes ago..... more to come...

Toes and Fishes.

Well I finally decided to get my toes fixed after a year of trying to doctor it... I thought it was going to be some big deal. Well the toolbox instead of the cabinet in the doctors office was inspiring but I had no way to back out. Turns out he was Pretty good and I got it fixed. No more death feet in climbing shoes.

Well with this new found toe releif i had to take it easy so i decided to finish  a project i started as a wee boyscout like 5 years ago. more photos will follow.
